The Toyota Tundra is an American-built large pickup truck. Toyota Tundra offers regular-cab models, extended Access Cabs with small rear-hinged back doors, and crew-type Double Cabs with four conventional doors and 4-inch-wider bodies. Regulars use an 8.1-ft cargo bed. Access Cabs have 6.1-ft beds with conventional styling or Toyota's StepSide flared-fender treatment. Double Cabs also use a 6.1-ft bed, but with 4-inch-taller sidewalls. All models offer front bucket seats or a full-width bench. Access and Double Cabs add a split folding rear seat for up to 6-passenger capacity.
Engines comprise a 4.0-liter V6 teamed with 6-speed manual transmission or 5-speed automatic, and a 4.7-liter V8 with automatic only. Both can be ordered with rear-wheel drive or 4WD. The 4WD should not be left engaged on dry pavement, but includes low-range gearing. All models come with ABS and offer an optional antiskid system. Available for Double Cabs only are head-protecting curtain side airbags paired with front side airbags. Regular cabs come in base and Work versions. Others offer SR5 and Limited trim. Double Cabs have a power up/down rear window and offer sunroof, heated front seats, and rear DVD entertainment as exclusive options. A navigation system is available for SR5s and Limiteds, as are TRD Off-Road Packages with special tires, suspension, and trim.
Toyota Tundra doesn't offer as much power as most other big pickups, so it's less of a workhorse. Still, it earns our Recommended badge for the usual Toyota virtues of high refinement, solid workmanship, and an enviable reputation for reliability and resale value.
