Toyota Solara coupes and convertibles are spinoffs of Toyota's 2002-2006 Camry sedan design. Toyota Solara coupes come in SE, SE Sport, and luxury SLE trim. Convertibles come in SE and SLE form and have a power fabric top with heated glass rear window. Coupes come with a 157-hp 4-cyl engine or a 225-hp V6. Convertibles get the V6. Four-cyl models offer a 5-speed manual transmission or optional 5-speed automatic. The automatic is standard for V6s. SE Sports feature unique lower-body styling and a performance-tuned suspension. SE Sports, SLE V6 coupes, and both convertibles have 17-inch wheels; SE and SLE 4-cyl coupes have 16s. All Toyota Solaras come with antilock 4-wheel disc brakes. An antiskid system is optional on SLE V6 models. Front side airbags are standard. Options include curtain side airbags for coupes and a navigation system.
Toyota Solara inherits many virtues from its 2002-2006 Camry parent, but trades 4-dr practicality for 2-dr style, and it's no more entertaining to drive. Accord coupes have more spirit, but Toyota Solara matches the Honda's reputation for reliability and high resale value, and offers a convertible body style that Accord does not.
