Toyota Land Cruiser offers more power and an optional variable suspension for 2006. This SUV is a near twin of the Lexus LX 470. Its V8 engine adds 40 hp for 275 total. Cruisers have a 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive with low-range gearing. ABS, an antiskid system, and 3-row, eight-passenger seating are standard. The newly available suspension, borrowed from LX, offers driver-adjustable ride height and shock absorber firmness. Also optional are front torso side airbags with curtain side airbags covering the 1st and 2nd rows. Other options include DVD entertainment, and a navigation system with rearview camera. The navigation's dashboard screen can play DVDs with the transmission in Park. Toyota Land Cruiser mirrors LX 470 in performance and accommodations.
Toyota or Lexus, these are premium SUVs all the way: capable off-road, comfortable on-road, beautifully built, lavishly equipped. The LX 470 offers Lexus's longer warranty and renown for superior customer care, but Toyota Land Cruiser costs a bit less. That clinches a Best Buy ribbon.
