Toyota Echo offers 2-dr coupes and 4-dr sedans with a 4-cyl engine and manual or optional automatic transmission. ABS, front side airbags, and power steering are optional. Also available are 15-inch wheels to replace the standard 14s, a power windows/door locks package, tachometer, in-dash CD changer, and split folding rear seatbacks. The Yaris is due to replace Toyota Echo early in 2006 as an update of this basic design.
This is an efficient small car with keen pricing and Toyota's strong reputation for quality and reliability. Its modest power, crosswind-sensitive tall shape, and light weight don't inspire confidence on today's busy Interstates, however. Competition from a strong field of less-quirky entry-level rivals has rendered Toyota Echo a sales dud, so dealers should be willing to discount.
